What you can do during your mid-semester break

Opinion: Mid-semester break is coming! Do you have anything planned for this holiday other than lazing around and binge-watching the same show on Netflix? (uhh..sounds boring to us) Because if you don’t - we do!

For this week’s topic, we’ll be sharing with you some fun things you can do at home without going out and putting yourself at risk of getting fined - oh and the virus, too. Other than studying, maybe you can try out these 3 fun and entertaining ideas. Along the way, you might even get the chance to acknowledge your hidden talent - who knows?

Someone playing PUBG Mobile

The first idea is something you might not expect. Games. There we said it, games. We cannot deny that playing games can be such a stress reliever especially for us students. PUBG MOBILE, COD, ML, DOTA, FIFA are all the famous games being played by the Gen Z’s - this is an obvious fact that everyone knows. However, we are also exposed to other types of games such as Among Us. We’ve tried it out and we get the hype. You might think this sounds absurd coming from us but hear us out.

A black character in Among Us

The reason why we are suggesting this is because it encourages you to interact with people. Due to the MCO, we cannot stay out for too long, right? This type of game would be a great initiative for you to try and communicate with people in a proper and less boring way - like when you’re in an online class. Other than Among Us, there are also other applications you can try over the mid-semester break such as Plato, Hago, Poko and many more.

p/s: This is not sponsored. Do manage your time well between studying and playing games. We do not recommend you to play games all the time but this is one of the ways for you to destress yourself after weeks of online classes.

Our second suggestion is to find yourself a new hobby. From the beginning of this year, there has been a crazy outbreak of new hobbies in our society. From not knowing how to fry an egg to cooking a whole full course meal. So, this is the call for you to develop new hobbies during the mid-semester break. Try out simple cooking or baking recipes, or maybe you can try discovering your inner Van Gogh by doing some artsy stuff such as embroidering, acrylic painting or even find new ways to redecorate your room. These are several of many therapeutic ways of destressing yourself. They help you mentally, especially when you do not have better things to do in your leisure time. Maybe the video below can help inspire you.

In addition, you guys can also join many events and contests organized by ECLIPSE, APPLES, KEBAYU as well as other clubs. We are organizing a contest called CULTURALTOON in which you can take the opportunity to enhance your creativity. If you are interested to know more, we’ll keep you updated! At the same time, we are also organizing a VIRTUAL IMPROMPTU STORY-TELLING COMPETITION open to all APB students, and the final registration date is on December 12th! For more details, do check out our website and @eclipseofeic on Instagram.

We hope that what we have shared is beneficial to all, not only for this upcoming mid-semester break, but also for the semester break in the coming months. We all know we’re anticipating it immensely, as always.
